Linear Motor Drive
Unlike many stages that utilize a side-drive lead screw, the ALS135 employs a center-driven, non-cogging linear motor as the driving element. Since the linear motor is a direct-drive device, there is no backlash, windup, or 搒tiction?that is normally associated with a lead screw or ball screw drive.

The ALS5000WB is a large base veion of the popular ALS5000 series stage. The wider bearing spacing makes the ALS5000WB ideally suited for applicatio with large offset loads, and is commonly used as the lower axis in XY stage systems with large travel. The ALS5000WB also incorporates dual linear moto, effectively doubling the force output of a standard ALS5000 stage.
Rugged Cotruction
The ALS5000WB shares all of the same rugged design features of the ALS5000. The tabletop utilizes stainless steel HelicoilTM ierts to protect mounting holes agait thread wear.
The integral metal waycover provides protection from hot sparks or debris. Both the metal waycover and tabletop are treated with a hardcoat (Rockwell 62 hardness) that is scratch-resistant and provides outstanding protection.
To further provide the stage with protection from a caustic environment, the ALS5000WB utilizes Aerotech’s unique teioned side-strap system. The straps are in a vertical orientation that prevents debris from accumulating on top of them, and are teioned to create a tight seal. An optional air-purge is available that allows air to be forced into the body of the stage. This creates a positive pressure that prevents any particulate, no matter how fine, from entering the stage.
To aid in system assembly, the base mounting holes are located outboard of the stage. Therefore, the stage can be mounted without removing the hardcover.
Performance
By increasing the overall width of the stage, the spacing between the linear bearings was dramatically increased. This wider spacing allows the ALS5000WB to handle high cantilever loads and still maintain the high accuracy expected of an Aerotech product. In XY systems, this wider base tralates into greater support for the upper axis, effectively increasing its performance, particularly when handling a heavy load.
Dual Linear Motor Drive
Dual high-power, cog-free, BLM series linear moto drive the ALS5000WB to a peak force of over 2500 N (570 lb). High acceleratio are achievable even with heavy loading.
Since the BLM is a cog-free design, the ALS5000WB is ideal for applicatio requiring outstanding contour accuracy and smooth velocity profiling. The demand for a high-accuracy, robust, open-frame stage is met with the ALS3600. This dual-axis, large aperture, open-frame stage addresses the unique needs of scanning microscopy, wafer and printed circuit board ipection, and automated assembly.
Design and Cotruction
The ALS3600 is a three-piece design that allows critical components such as orthogonality, straightness, and flatness to be controlled during the initial machining. This results in a stage with exceptional geometrical tolerances and inherent orthogonality.
The ALS3600 utilizes high-precision linear motion guide (LMG) bearings, with a total of four trucks per axis. These make the ALS3600 ideal for fast, repetitive operatio. The LMG bearings also exhibit exceptional stiffness, high load capacity, and extremely low friction.
The high stiffness inherent in this stage allows it to be side-driven, yet still retain excellent performance characteristics. The ALS3600 represents a major upgrade in performance over typical side-drive stages.
Brushless Linear Servomotor

The magnetic field of the BLM motor is totally self-contained within the U-channel design. Most high-performance applicatio cannot tolerate the stray magnetic fields generated by flat motor magnet tracks.
The BLM’s magnet track is composed of opposing rows of high-power magnets that help to generate high output forces. This approach eliminates the need for an iron-based core, which has an inherent magnetic attraction between the forcer and the magnet track. Cable Management System

Aerotech’s ADRT series direct-drive rotary stages provide superior angular positioning and velocity control. Applicatio range from indexing to high-speed laser machining to precision wafer ipection.
Superior Mechanical Design
Dual large-diameter bearings are used to maximize performance with respect to wobble, moment stiffness, and repeatability. The large diameter bearings permit large payloads without compromising performance.
Brushless Direct Drive
To maximize positioning performance, the ADRT series utilizes Aerotech’s S-series brushless, slotless motor. This motor has all the advantages of a brushless direct-drive motor – no brushes to wear, no gear trai to maintain, and high acceleration and high speeds. Since it is a slotless, ironless design, there is zero cogging, meaning that there is absolutely no torque ripple.
With its low inherent inertia and optimized motor design, the ADRT is capable of speeds and acceleratio that are significantly higher than other competing products. These stages have a lower height profile compared to competing products within given torque ranges.
The low inertia and zero backlash make the ADRT the ideal solution for applicatio requiring frequent directional changes.
Accurate Positioning
Line counts range from 3600 to 5400 lines per revolution. When coupled with Aerotech’s MXH series resolution multiplie, resolutio can be as fine as 0.12 arc sec.
The motor and high-performance rotary encoder are directly coupled to a common shaft. The absence of gear trai and mechanical couplings mea no position erro caused by hysteresis, windup, or backlash.
Flexible Configuratio
Optio include a high-precision bearing for improved accuracy, smoothness, and run-out performance. Slip rings and rotary unio are available to ease integration of custom tooling, and a holding brake is available to limit movement of the stage during large impulse loads or when power is removed from the motor.
The ADRT is the only rotary table available with integrated “T-slots.” These slots can be used to mount the table horizontally or to attach custom application specific fixtures.
Aerotech manufactures a wide range of servo amplifie and advanced controlle to provide a complete integrated package.

Compact Package
The design of the AD series direct-drive rotary stage was optimized to minimize stage height. The low profile of the stage reduces the effective working height of the system minimizing “stack-up” related erro. In addition to the low overall height, the AD series provides a clear aperture that can be used for product feed-through or laser beam delivery.
Brushless Direct-Drive
To maximize positioning performance, the AD series utilizes direct-drive brushless motor technology. Direct-drive technology is optimized for 24/7 production environments, as there are no brushes to replace and no gear trai or belts to maintain. Direct drive also provides quicker acceleration and higher top speeds than gear- or belt-driven mechanisms, yielding higher total overall throughput.
The low maintenance and high-throughput characteristics of the AD series provide a stage that yields the lowest total cost of ownehip.
Slotless Motor
The AD series uses a slotless stator design that eliminates torque ripple. This motor technology provides ultra-smooth velocity stability comparable to a high-quality DC brush motor without all the DC motor’s inherent maintenance requirements. Since the slotless motor is directly coupled to the tabletop, velocity disturbances created by toothed belt drives or worm gea are eliminated.
Multiple Configuratio
The AD series is available in 100 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm veio. Each stage has optio for different motor windings to better match the stage to different operating conditio. The -B winding option provides the highest possible speed operation for a given available bus voltage, while the -A winding gives greater output torque for comparable current levels. Metric and “English” pattern tabletops are available and slotted mounting holes enable attachment to 25 mm and 1inch hole pattern breadboards. The tabletop of the AD series has a labyrinth seal that protects the bearings and encoder from contamination. An optional shaft end seal is available for applicatio where the bottom of the stage is exposed to contamination.

Aerotech’s ALAR series direct-drive rotary stages provide superior angular positioning and velocity control with exceptionally large apertures. With the combination of a large aperture and direct-drive motor, the ALAR series makes worm-drive large aperture stages a thing of the past.
Advantage ALAR
Now custome can get large aperture rotary stages with zero backlash, and no gear wear or gear vibration as is commonly seen in worm-drive stages. The other added benefit is that direct drive is significantly faster than worm drive, so testing can be completed in less time. In production settings, this equates to faster testing, lower cost manufacturing, and higher profits. From the standpoint of system accuracy and repeatability, the stage will maintain its performance over time with no need for maintenance because there are no gea to wear out. With higher accuracy and no backlash, custome can produce more accurate products because their test system is now more accurate.
Applicatio
Applicatio for the ALAR include single and multiaxis electro-optic seor testing, missile seeker testing, antenna testing, inertial navigation device testing, photonic component alignment, high-accuracy laser machining, and precision wafer ipection. These include testing in vacuum to 10-6 torr. These rotary stages can also be configured as multiaxis gimbals.
High Speed
Conventional worm-drive rotaries with similar apertures and payload capacity only operate to 15 rpm or less. These direct-drive stages have been tested to 85 rpm continuous rotation – over 5 times faster than worm drives.
Superior Mechanical Design
Angular contact bearings are used to maximize performance with respect to wobble, moment stiffness, and rotating friction. A precision-machined shaft further minimizes wobble. The design incorporates integral connectio that minimize cable issues. The ALAR works especially well in applicatio that require 360° continuous motion, but have limited space. The stage is 65-160 mm tall and provides smooth motion without travel restrictio.
Brushless Direct-Drive
To maximize positioning performance, the ALAR series utilizes Aerotech’s brushless, slotless moto. This motor has all of the advantages of a brushless direct-drive motor – no brushes to wear, no gear trai to maintain, and high acceleration and high speeds. Since it is a slotless, ironless design, there is zero cogging, meaning there is absolutely no torque ripple. This makes the ALAR ideal for applicatio requiring outstanding contoured motion, smooth scan velocity, or precise incremental steps.
High Payload Capacity and Large Moment Load Stiffness
The ALAR comes in two different configuratio. The standard profile (SP) unit has high payload capacity and high moment load stiffness so it can handle applicatio where its rotation axis is parallel or perpendicular to gravity and the payload center of gravity is cantilevered away from the stage. The low profile (LP) unit has high payload capacity and is good for applicatio where the axis of rotation is parallel to gravity. Both the SP and LP units have the same aperture optio and motor optio. Either SP or LP stages can handle between 300-1000 lb of axial load.
Accurate Positioning
Performance is assured with encoder line counts from 31000 to 74000 per rev, resulting in resolutio from 0.02 arc sec/count to 0.009 arc sec/count. The motor and high-performance rotary encoder are directly coupled to a common shaft. The absence of gear trai and mechanical couplings mea no position erro caused by hysteresis, windup, or backlash. As a result, accuracy of ±3.9 arc sec and bi-directional repeatability of ±0.5 arc sec is attainable.
